Political Art about California Prisons
This project is a long-term engagement with California's prison system ñ the third largest prison system in the world (behind China and the US as a whole). Composed of audio recordings, video, print media, photography, performance, and expanded sculptural practices, the project involves developing tools with which to describe, explain, and witness California's carceral machine.†
Department of Justice Prison and Parole Information
Includes links and addresses to all federal prisons, state prisons and county jails, federal and state inmate locators, prisoner transportation and transfer information, etc.
California Youth Authority
As part of the State's juvenile justice system, the CYA was created in order to provide institutional training and parole supervision for juvenile and young adult offenders.
California Board of Prison Terms
Conducts parole consideration hearings for all inmates sentenced to life terms with the possibility of parole, establishes terms and conditions for all persons released on parole in California, and conducts parole revocation hearings for violations of the terms and conditions of parole.
California Department of Corrections
Operates all state prisons, oversees a variety of community correctional facilities, and supervises all parolees during their re-entry into society.
American Civil Liberties Union Prison Project
This organization focuses to create constitutional conditions of confinement and strengthen prisoners' rights. It remains as the only national litigation program on behalf of prisoners.
